Excellent Hotel in a Trendy Neighborhood

Pros: Comfortable room with good facilities, friendly staff, great location.

Location: Good location convenient to Central Sydney and other neighborhoods, close to excellent restaurants, good access to public transportation.

We just came back from a 3 week trip to Australia and very much enjoyed our stay at the Old Clare Hotel, where we spent our last 4 nights. This hotel has been stylishly restored/remodeled, preserving a lot of the charm of the old brick building with modern facilities, including in our room a see-thru glass shower. The room was reasonably quiet as well. The staff was helpful and friendly. We had breakfast in the hotel's restaurant and the menu offered muesli and granola options, something we didn't see at other restaurants on our trip. The egg based dishes were well prepared and tasty. In addition to this charming hotel, there are excellent restaurants across the street. We had a fabulous dinner at Bistrot Gavroche and also had a very good dinner at Viet, part of Spice Alley. And at the end of the block (Kensington) is the Hand Made wine shop/tasting room, where we were able to sample some nice Australian wines. Again, these were all across the street. The Central Train station is a few minutes away. Lots of buses stop nearby. Chippendale is just south of the center of downtown Sydney and is convenient to other areas and attractions. Put it all together we enjoyed our stay at the Old Clare Hotel and would definitely stay there on another trip to Sydney.
