It was clean and with plenty of activities, I expected the room to have nicer furnishings for the price as well as their was a musty smell in the hallways.

Did not like the fact that the resort was hosting some goofy comic book character convention. Should be disclosed when making reservations. Many strange people attended this event.

disappointed

Don't stay in the older part of the hotel, it needs updates and was not that clean. Felt like a chain hotel except for the price. The bed was very comfortable.

Nothing grand about the grand traverse

save your money sleep in your car! I'm writing this at 6:17am I've been up since 3:00 the bed here is horrible! Hotel is dirty, not kept up, smells. I could go on but why bother. Stay anywhere but here.

staff pleasant rooms were poor very old and warn

too expensive for the quality of the rooms and the ammenities charge was too much..especially when they were not used. The elevators sign for the lobby was done in a hand printed black marker the heat and cooling unit were very loud had to be turned off to sleep. It is a beautiful setting and the staff was great, but not worth the price . The beds were comfortable.. our view was unfortunately above the roof.

Great weekend getaway.

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet
Cons: Nothing close
My husband and I go to the Grand Traverse a couple of times a year. While it is a little out of town, we enjoy the quality rooms, great pool area, and high quality spa. Don't make the mistake of staying in the regular hotel at the resort. If you are not going to spend the money to stay in the tower, stay somewhere else in Traverse City!

Grand Traverse Resort Hotel

Very disappointing. We had a room in the hotel which was obiviously dusty, dark and needed a good cleaning. Local phone calls are 75 cents, standard cable tv - no HBO, etc., and a one cup at a time inroom coffee maker with paper cups that are too hot to use anyway. The bed was very comfortable though. The rest of the resort, particularly Jacks Bar and the restaurant (not the upper one) had great food and serivice.

Misleading website photos

Whoever took the photos for the website is very creative (and with great editing skills) and you shouldn't expect those when you arrive. More specifically, the so called "private beach" is actually a mile away and requires a shuttle ride. The hotel is not near any trail or beach or other outdoor activities (except the cemetery right at the entrance). The only option is to walk around the golf course (or the huge parking lot) but constantly bump into golf carts and worry about being hit (since there are golf balls all around). It is also a 15~20 minute drive to the city (due to slow traffic) so it is difficult to access restaurants and other services such as renting a bike or boat. You will be paying less in quite a few nice hotels which are right on the beach and near the city and the trails. The two restaurants on site are ok but not resort quality (and we were one of the only two tables occupied on a Friday evening at 7 pm!) There are multiple pools and whirlpools onsite but they are not proportional to the size of the hotel. Again, you are better off to either find a large water park or a cheaper/smaller hotel with fewer people. When I checked in, they gave me a room that was not ready. They then switched me to a room that clearly smelt of cigarettes. I do want to compliment the staff members who are very friendly and helpful. If you go there for the lake, the outdoors and the town, this is a poor choice to pay well over $200 for. There is an additional resort fee of $9.95 per day.

Nothing Grand about it!

The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa was not at all what we had anticipated. The pictures on the website look beautiful...but in reality the 6 story hotel is outdated with terrible decor, low drop ceilings, and very old/slow elevators. The nicest part was the lobby. For /night "on special" we expected a lot more. The private beach was tiny. You had to walk out on a dock to access a very small strip of beach on the water. It was so packed we turned around and headed for the indoor pool. This was located in a dark basement and 1/2 of the hot tubs were out of service. We will not stay here again and encourage you not to waste your money.
