The Shire is a very welcoming hotel. It's location is very good, near downtown with bookstore, convenience store and eateries so close you can walk to them in minutes. We had a river view and it was delicious. So relaxing to watch the river flow by and just to relax. The atmosphere is wonderful and the rooms were roomy. Thanks for an enjoyable Christmas experience.

Located in the village itself, just a short walk downstreet to shopping and great local bars. Room had fireplace and a great view of the brook.

This is a nice, old motel with comfortable beds. It’s quaint and small.We got a double queen suite for four adults (our adult kids bunked with us for two nights when we only slept there and took off for Thanksgiving elsewhere). The beds were full size, not queen, and the “suite” part is on a very small scale: two chairs and a small end table within two feet of one of the beds and immediately next to the windows. It’s not a place to hang out. Coffee is in the entry, and the river view was lovely. The beds were comfortable. We would stay here again. Rooms are very in-demand in this region of Vermont, so be prepared to pay a high rate for a room that is cozy. This is not a Hilton with all the chain amenities. Ample, close parking and a friendly staff in the gorgeous town of Woodstock make this get our vote as a really good — but not five star — place to stay. No disrespect intended in any way.

Travelled to Woodstock for our 8th Anniversary with 2 small children. The accomodations were great. Truly nothing fancy at all, but just all in very good condition and CLEAN!
