Description

Jump into the Pedal Bike Tours van and drive just 45 minutes out of Portland to the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge for a half-day biking, hiking, and sightseeing excursion. Led by professional guides, the tour takes guests to historic and scenic vistas along the Columbia Gorge, and includes a 6-mile bike ride with stops at several waterfalls for short hikes amid ferns, trees and cool mists.

To begin this combination bike and hike excursion (bike and helmet are included in the tour price) we’ll enjoy a comfortable drive out to the Historic Columbia River Highway, completed in 1916. On the way we’ll view some of the most photographed scenic vistas in the Gorge before unloading the bikes for our ride. Guests ride alone, meandering along the old highway while the guide provides back-up with the van.

This 6-mile ride gives us a sense of what it was like to travel along the first National Scenic Highway in the nation through the Gorge before construction of the interstate highway. We’ll stop at several waterfalls for short hikes where you can feel the cool mist of water and the pulsing concussion of air from the falls amidst the lush green growth of dozens of tree species, flowering shrubs, ferns, and moss. We may even glimpse some of the native birds of prey, such as osprey and bald eagles.

After exploring the falls by bike along the Historic Columbia River Highway, relax as we drive to towering Multnomah Falls, then transport you back to the city to complete your experience of one of the most beautiful places in Oregon.

You have the option to go on 2 hikes: a 2-mile hike to gorgeous Upper Latourell falls and a 2/3 mile hike to Bridal Veil Falls. Don’t forget to snap some photos of the iconic Gorge before heading back to the city.

This was one of the best tours I've ever been on. I was guided by Daniel who has lived in Portland for several years and had loads of knowledge & enthusiasm for the city and its surroundings. We drove out of Portland to the Historic Oregon Highway (30) and I was loaned waterproofs to face the rainy weather. The scenery was amazing and the opportunity to bike around between stops was brilliant; Daniel went ahead in the van to provide support where needed and there were regular stops to hike around the area with highlights being the Wahkeena Falls & the Multnomah Falls and the Vista House. Would highly recommend to anyone in Portland - a half day trip that gave me an experience I won't forget! Would love to attend any other tours run by this company if I visit Portland again. Given the rain; they even had shower facilities to make use of on return to the city. Thank you!

Absolutely wonderful bike and hike tour with Scotland of Pedal Bike tours. The scenery, gorge and waterfalls were spectacular and Scotland was very knowledgeable about the history of the area. He was willing to change the ratio of biking to hiking per the group’s wishes, and we had a great time! As a couple in our sixties, the biking and hiking left us happily worn out, but we didn’t feel overly challenged. We highly recommend Pedal Bike tours and Scotland to anyone visiting the Columbia Gorge and waterfalls for the first time, and for visitors who want to get some exercise while sightseeing!
