What you can expect
Take a look back at the earliest days of Cartagena with an introduction to the Roman ruins that stood over the harbor more than 2,000 years ago. A personal guide shows you the surviving landmarks from the city's heyday in classical antiquity, along with some terrific, timeless views.
You start with a visit to the site of the original city walls, where the Punic Wall Interpretation Center holds the remains of the original fortifications built by the Carthaginian Empire. From there, your guide leads you to the House of Fortune, an ancient residence decorated to showcase the life under Roman rule.
Next, climb up Concepcion Hill for a look over the harbor ahead of your visit to the grand Roman Theatre, carved directly out of the rock along the hillside. The nearby museum tells the story of the Theatre's rediscovery in the 1980s, and you can wrap things up by relaxing on the Calle Mayor near the city's Modernist town hall as the tour comes to an end.
