We took the shuttle from Sapporo Station. However, we had the worst reception when the shuttle bus reached the hotel. Taiwanese Chinese tourists and us, Singaporean Chinese were seated in front, we got up to alight. But before we could alight, a Japanese lady hotel staff came up the bus and gestured to us to go back to our seats, started speaking in Japanese. She then proceeded to call out Japanese names of those seated in the bus behind and they alighted to collect their luggages. After she finished calling the Japanese guests, she just alighted the bus without saying a word to all the Taiwanese Chinese guests and us, Singaporean Chinese who were left seated in the bus. We remained seated in the bus wondering what we should do. I looked at the same lady from the bus window where I was seated and gestured to her what is going on, she gave me a look that seems to say what do you want? I alighted the bus and asked her if is this Nono Kaze Hotel? She just said yes. I realised that we were being discriminated by this lady staff.
Is this how the hotel treat their foreign guests? Calling all the Japanese to alight first from the bus to be checked into hotel first and ignore the foreign guests? What happened to the "omotennashi" which Japanese takes pride in which this lady staff lacks? This is my third trip to Japan. Prior to this incident, I have enjoyed omotenashi from all the hotels I stayed including 3 star hotels. I would like the management to comment on this incident.
