Littleton, Colorado, was first populated during the 1959 gold rush by an engineer named Richard Little who, along with some friends, built a community around a flour mill. The town has grown considerably over the years and now serves as a suburb of the state capital, Denver. There are lots of Littleton motels on the way into Denver, making it a great place to stay if you want to be a little bit outside the city. The town has some interesting attractions in its own right too.
Littleton is 33 miles southwest of Denver International Airport. You can get there by taking the airport shuttle into Denver, then the light rail line D into Littleton. To bypass the city, rent a car from the main terminal or take a taxi from level five of the Jeppesen Terminal. After arriving and checking in to your choice of Littleton hotels, take some time to walk around town. There are several parks including the beautiful Hudson Gardens botanical park and Ketring Park, which is built around a lake. Next to Ketring Park is Littleton Museum, which has two living history farms depicting life in the 1860s and the 1890s. If you want to be closer to the big city's attractions, book a stay in one of the great Denver hotels, and check out the Colorado State Capitol, Denver Zoo, and Denver Art Museum. There's plenty of natural beauty in the vicinity too, such as the Rocky Mountain National Park, 85 miles northwest of Littleton. For more mountain scenery, the popular resort town of Colorado Springs is 66 miles south. You can pick up rental cars in Littleton when you want to get out and about.
