Exceptional

Pros: The personal touches (Kiels product, nightly turn-down service); the friendly staff.
Location: The location is superb. A block from Central Park, and surrounded by great shopping.
This hotel understands how to make you feel special. Their staff are respectful, gracious, and impeccably dressed. Rooms are clean, beautifully appointed, and luxurious. I loved the jetted tub, especially after walking for eight hours solid, and coming home exhausted with achy feet. Noticed I said "home?" It really was home-like. I found it really thoughtful that they left a bookmark on top of my book, and a glass-cleaning cloth next to my glasses. It's such a small gesture, but leaves you feeling like they care. Thank you to everyone at the Carlyle for making this an unforgettable experience!

1st Time in the Big Apple - 100% Satisfied~!

Pros: From the time we arrived we knew we had "lucked out" and truly found a very special hotel. It was so elegant and yet warm and friendly.
Cons: NOTHING.
Location: 911 memorial (do not miss), Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Yankee Stadium and Empire State Bldg.
This trip was a surprise for my wife as we were celebrating our 20 yr. wedding anniversary. Neither of us had any recent experience with NYC and had to reply on reviews and feedback from friends on where to stay as we had no understanding of the geography (ie: uptown, midtown downtown, etc). We arrived in to JFK on a red eye from LAX and so we never slept and immediately went to our hotel dropped our bags and then went on 3 days on non-stop "tourist" attractions from the 911 memorial (do not miss), Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Yankee Stadium and Empire State Bldg. We enjoyed the dining, subways and even cab rides. I might add that the room originally assigned to us was not to our liking as we looked out directly at a brick wall of another building and so we called the front desk and they were more than willing to move us to a room with a view overlooking the front of the hotel entrance and street below...which my wife appreciated as she struggles with claustrophobia. Don't miss visiting Bemelman's (piano) Bar as this is something out of an old romantic movie...great for martini's. Also the daily breakfast is wonderful and though expensive...you should eat there at least once on your visit. Central Park is a short couple of blocks away. Only thing was we should have stayed one or two extra days as we couldn't get to everything we wanted to see...OH well - it just means we will have to come back again and will certainly plan to stay at the Carlyle again...what a GREAT HOTEL

classic, excellence elegance

Pros: Classic elegance. The staff call us by name, no need for fancy security procedures with ids to take the elevator as experienced a the Breakers last y
Cons: Not much, maybe a little more maintenance which is in process
Location: Fabulous location, close to Central Park, Museum Mile, great shopping, and the doorman can ALWAYS get you a cab to go to south on the island
Been staying there for 40 years, and it is always excellent & surpasses expectations. And it is also attractive to the younger set, as evidenced by their presence in the hotel, Bemelmann's, the gallery and at cabaret.

Class and Style with Charm

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, stunning views, class and style, charming
We were going to stay 3 nights.....got up to our suite and immediately called down stairs and requested "one more night, please." Wonderful, wonderful place to stay. Very relaxing to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail in your suite overlooking Central Park. Looking forward to staying once more.

Pure Indulgence!

Pros: Quiet
We just love this hotel. You are treated like royalty. I love having a real person in the elevator to take you to your floor. The added security is really appreciated. The room was very clean, the bed extremely comfy. The bathroom is on the small size, but very well appointed with extras like Kiels lotions

Great location

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
This hotel is in a great location for access to the park, walking distance to excellent restaurants and subway access. It's on the Upper East side so not a short walk into downtown, but the neighborhood is great and if you're up for a walk, it's easy to get around. The hotel also offers a towncar service. Most of all, the hotel was quiet and the service excellent. Would stay here again.

Always a great choice.

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet, lobby coffee and rolls
Cons: none
We have stayed at the Carlyle Hotel in New York a number of times. Its always our first choice. It has a New York charm about it that can't be equaled. In addition to five star service and staff the lounge on the main floor is an excellent place to meet a friend, relax and read or enjoy tea service. When you are there you can imagine many decades ago people were enjoying this lounge which is beautifully preserved and appointed. Those people were celebrities, oil barons, politicians and other well respected people who chose the Carlyle as New York's finest. You might just bump into Woody Allen while you're there as he plays the clarinet in the bar usually on Monday nights. Its not a Nuvo style hotel. Its a beautifully preserved place in New York with an old money charm in about the best location you'd ever want to be. We've seen the same staff there for many years and that speaks highly of the employee morale at the hotel. Its always a great choice!

Wonderful experience!

Classic New York elegance. Charm, character, luxury, great staff. May be a bit "stuffy" for some (coat and tie at breakfast?) but a New York experience everyone should have at least once. Wouldn't trade my week there.
