Marrakech is serviced by one airport. You'll be touching down at Marrakech Airport (RAK-Menara), which is 2 miles (3 kilometers) from the downtown area.

Where to stay in Marrakech

If you're looking for someplace upmarket to lay your head, slide between the soft sheets at the Riad Marrakech By Hivernage. Alternatively, look up the Riad L'Orchidée. It's a fine choice if you're traveling on a smaller budget.

Dying to stay in the vicinity of Jemaa el-Fna, Medina? Don't wait any longer! The Appartment Centre Gueliz and the Jnane Gueliz are within reach and are only a walk away.

Places to visit in Marrakech

While it can be quite exhilarating wandering off the beaten track when you're somewhere new, sometimes it's fun to do the touristy things to see what all the fuss is about — like exploring Jamaa el Fna in Marrakech.

Experience the fabulous flavors of this lively metropolis by enjoying attractions like the Palais des Congres and the Menara Gardens. If you have more time up your sleeve, Saadian Tombs and Bahia Palace are well worth seeing too.

Make inquiries into a guided tour of El Badi Palace, a local icon and one of the area's unmissable sites. Need some more options? Eager to find somewhere where one can enjoy a relaxing stroll or simply sit in the sun? Head over to Agdal Gardens. But that's not all there is. Whether you'd like to see the sacred foyer or gaze at the outer design, you should plan a trip to Koutoubia Minaret.

How to get through airport security fast when traveling to Marrakech

If you like the thought of spending more time at the airport bars and restaurants and less time wading through security on your way to Marrakech, just follow these practical tips:

  • Make sure you know the whereabouts of your passport and boarding pass. You don't want to hold up the line when you're asked to hand them over.
  • Remove your belt and shoes before arriving at the security checkpoint. Items like these are not permitted in the body scanner.
  • Digital cameras, laptops and other electronic devices must be placed in a tray to be X-rayed.
  • Hand cream, toothpaste and other toiletry items in cream, liquid or gel form need to be stored in containers smaller than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). They must also fit in a 1-quart (1-liter) clear resealable bag.
  • Hiking footwear and other bulky shoes are often X-rayed by airport security. Think about wearing simple sneakers instead.
  • Put any pocketknives or other pointy metal items in your checked luggage. Security personnel don't permit these in carry-on baggage.

Flights To Marrakech

The capital of Morocco, Marrakech, features a chaotic yet captivating mix of Arabic, European, and African cultures. Marrakech flights will put you in the center of this confluence to explore an utterly unique culture. If you're lucky, you'll catch a glimpse of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains that cradle the city on your way in. If not, then when arriving at Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK), flights to Marrakech will pass over three lovely nearby gardens.

Transportation from RAK

A great way to head into the city is via an air-conditioned bus that leaves the airport every half hour. It passes most major Marrakech hotels, so just tell the driver where you're staying. Catch the bus outside the Arrivals Hall at Terminal 2 for a well-priced and comfortable ride into town. Alternatively, you can take a taxi, but don't take the first taxi you see. Unfortunately, the official airport taxi stand has long been a tourist trap, which often demands prices more than four times as much as the official taxi-metered price. While this taxi stand is the most convenient, you can spend your money more efficiently by simply bypassing the stand and walking a bit further to the roundabout in the car park area, where you can find a taxi for a fair price. If you're a light packer or extra adventurous, you can even walk the short three miles to the Medina, or the historic city center, in less than two hours, stopping halfway to visit the lovely Menara gardens.
