Buckskin Manor - Historic, Pool, 66 Acre Vineyard

MOUNTAIN MAMA

Experience the charm of one of the oldest homes in Loudoun! Built in 1752, this historic home retains the original log/exposed brick walls, wood floors, ceiling beams, and antique stone fireplaces. The home is sited on a hillside with sweeping views of the 66 acre vineyard, which is actively being cultivated for future wine production. Enjoy a glass yourself by the large swimming pool as you take in the sunsets over the vineyard or gather around the outdoor fireplace.
We are committed to Rent Responsibly standards. This means we follow best-in-class guidelines to ensure you have a peaceful, safe and memorable stay with us. We care a lot about maintaining good relationships with our community, so we appreciate you following these "house rules" during your stay.

LODGING AGREEMENT: The guest booking the property must digitally sign a lodging agreement immediately following the reservation. The most important terms of the agreement are included below, and the guest may cancel a booking penalty free within 24 hours. If the lodging agreement is not completed within 24 hours then the reservation will be cancelled. The agreement will be sent via text message, so please be sure your phone number is correct before booking.

AGE 30 OR OLDER TO BOOK: The guest booking the property must be 30 years of age or older. We reserve the right to request a photo or scan of a government-issued photo ID. The guest who books must stay at the property--you may not book for others if you do not intend to stay at the property.

QUIET HOURS START AT 10 PM: Our property's quiet hours of 10 pm to 6 am are required by county ordinance and enforced by local police. If the police respond to a noise complaint, every individual on the property may face a misdemeanor criminal charge and be subject to a fine by the county of $300. Failure to abide by the county noise ordinance will result in the immediate termination of the stay without refund.

Past noise complaints have always come from groups of 20-somethings. If you are booking for a group of people in their twenties and you think your group may want to play loud music at any time then do not book this property or cancel your reservation if you have already booked. Find another place for your trip so you do not have your trip terminated early and without refund.

NOISE MONITORING AND SECURITY CAMERA: We use devices that measure volume levels throughout the property (like a smoke detector but for noise) and allow us to respond to noise nuisances before the police are called. The devices are triggered primarily by sustained periods of loud music, not things like loud talking or laughter (which is encouraged!). The devices do not record audio and are 100% privacy compliant. We also have a security camera that records the front door and driveway. This allows us to facilitate remote check in and monitor the property between guests.

ACCIDENT FORGIVENESS: Every stay is backed by our accident forgiveness program. Guests will not be held responsible for damage caused during their stay (up to a maximum of $1,500) if 1) the damage is accidental, and 2) the damage is reported as soon as possible, and by no later than the check out time.

POSSIBLE BACKGROUND CHECK: We reserve the right to use a third-party to verify the guest's identity and check criminal databases to finalize the reservation. Complete terms regarding the guest verification are provided in the lodging agreement, and can be provided sooner upon request.

NO PETS: No exceptions, sorry. Please don't ask whether we can allow your perfectly house-trained, hypoallergenic labradoodle to join because we can't :-)

SNOW-INS: During the winter, four wheel drive, snow tires/chains, and a car with good clearance are highly recommended in the event of a snow storm or heavy rain, as there is a good chance that a significant snow storm could restrict access in and out of the house. You need to use good judgement as to whether to cancel a trip before it begins or leave the house early.

POOL SEASON: The pool is closed for 2023 and will reopen in May 2024. The pool is not heated.

WORKING FARM STAY: This is a stay on a working vineyard. The entire house and adjacent outdoor areas (e.g. the pool, the outdoor fireplace, etc.) are completely yours and we strive to offer as much privacy as we can. However, you may see people coming and going on other areas of the property as they work the surrounding land. You may also hear some farm equipment during normal working hours.

BUGS: This is a farm stay--that means there may be lots of bugs, especially in the summertime. Even if you are careful some of those bugs will find their way into the house. The best way to minimize the number of bugs inside is to keep doors and windows closed at all times. Please also carefully clean up the kitchen every night and securely package up all food.

NO INDOOR WOOD STOVE/FIREPLACE: The indoor wood stove and fireplaces are not available for guest use.

OUTDOOR PIZZA OVEN: There is a masonry-built outdoor pizza oven next to the outdoor fireplace. You are welcome to use the pizza oven. However, unless you already have experience using outdoor pizza ovens you may not want to try it here. Cooking pizzas in an outdoor oven is a hard skill to master!

SLOW WIFI: High speed wifi is not available in this area, unfortunately. Wifi speeds are typically 8-12 Mbps, enough to browse the web, email, and maybe stream one video at a time. Guests may have difficulty videoconferencing.

POOR CELL SERVICE: Cell service at and near the property is not good. AT&T seems to have a slightly better connection than Verizon, but no carrier has good service in this area. Enabling wifi calling makes it possible to take calls from the house, but the wifi is not very strong either (see above).

NO SMOKING: Smoking is never allowed inside the house. You may smoke outside as long as you clean up after yourself. You may not litter cigarette butts on the deck, in the yard, or anywhere else--butts must go in the trash after they have cooled off.

SHEETS: At the end of your stay you will be asked to strip the sheets off the beds that were used and leave the sheets on top of the beds.

WAIVER OF LIABILITY FOR USE OF THE POOL: By using the pool you agree to follow all house rules associated with it and you release the owner of the property from all liability relating to injuries that may occur in or around the pool, regardless of whether injuries are caused by negligence.

SEPTIC SYSTEM: This house has a septic system. Grease and oil must never be allowed down any of the sink drains. Feminine hygiene products must be thrown away in a trash can and not flushed down a toilet. Never flush solid trash down the toilet or into a sink drain.

NO FIREWORKS: Fireworks are not allowed.

NO FIREARMS: Guests may not bring firearms or ammunition inside the house.

NO ILLEGAL DRUGS: Guests may not possess or consume any illegal drugs on the property, including cannabis.

Country home in the heart of wine country
The location was great and the property manager was very good. Unfortunately it was in February and it was 25 degrees outside. The house was very cold, and there were alot of bugs looking for warmth as well. Perhaps during the summer with the ability to use the pool, would make our experience better. I would give it another try!

Beautiful home
This house is amazing as is the property. We were very comfortable here. Very peaceful. My only issue was the $$$ cleaning fee. The pots had to be washed due to cob webs. We had to strip the beds and pile the towels, take all the garbage out to the cans and load the dishwasher. What exactly does the $ fee cover?

Historic Farm House
Amazing setting, great pond for fishing, beautiful pool. Does not have a gas grill or outdoor grilling area. Lovely fire pit area, but you will need to bring your own wood. Kitchen is nicely appointed, but could use a Keurig. Plenty of room for a large family or families. I would recommend.

Nice place to stay
This house was very nice. I reported that the cleaners did not do a very good job of cleaning. The coffee pot was filthy and the glass on the doors was also dirty. The rental company offered to have the cleaners come back to take care of those things but I told them I would handle it. The AC on the1st floor worked well. The inverter AC's worked very well in the bedrooms on the second floor but the 3rd floor was a different story. Both of those inverters blew hot air. There was a window unit in the bedroom that kept the room a comfortable temperature. The rental company was quick to respond to me with any questions or concerns. All in all I would rent the house again.

Delightful Property & Host, missing grill & good matresses
Our family had a lovely stay at Buckskin Manor. The house, pool and grounds are magnificent! The owners were good communicators- and very nice. However , we love to cook, and there is only a small charcoal grill- there is a wonderful outdoor pizza oven but no instructions for how to use or where extra wood might be. We used 4 beds and all of the guests felt the mattresses weren’t up to the standard of the house at all—(no one slept well) the pool is delightful!

Lovely Retreat, Worth a Repeat!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Buckskin Manor. It's a lovely historic home that we found clean, spacious and well equipped. Stayed during a heat wave, but remained cool in the house and spent most of our time in and around the amazing pool. The grounds are great for roaming and observing all the flora and wildlife and could be stunning with a little more regular TLC (owner is working on that). Close to Harpers Ferry for water fun on the Potomac River and close to many wonderful Virginia vineyards. Communications with the manager Priya was excellent before, during and after our stay. A few minor issues were resolved quickly. Would definitely love to stay here again!

Home was beautiful and accommodated our family. We were able to retreat when needed and were close enough to make several day trips around the area. Would definitely return.

A historic Virginia treasure
I can only imagine the upkeep needed on a house that's almost 300 years old. But Buckskin Manor's owners are doing it beautifully and we are lucky to have them share that diligence in maintaining it with those of us they allow to rent it. We had an amazing, relaxing week at the property. Our kids loved the pool and all the space to just run around and let their imaginations run wild. The gorgeous outdoor space was perfect for play for the kids and relaxation for us adults. The small screened porch off one of the bedrooms is the perfect spot for your morning coffee. The entire house has an abundance of comfy nooks to curl up and read your latest book. We also loved how close it is to numerous wineries and breweries with great food. Loved the house and felt so lucky to get a week there. Thank you, Priya!
