What a dump!!

We decided to take a few days away, just the girls. Typically stay at the Wyndham Santa Barbara but thought we would try this one out. The staff was incredibly rude!!! The room was a dump. Definitely could use some updating. The door to our room didn't lock. You could walk right in. Informed the front desk, however they didn't seem to care. It was never fixed. I went to the desk to ask to see a telephone book, after being ignored for at least 5 minutes, I was informed they didn't have a phone book. The lady in the sandwich shop encouraged us to go to the poolside Zumba class. The instructor was a personal friend of hers and she was an a "top notch" instructor. So we gathered pooliside and she never showed up. I ended up just getting a flight home after staying one night. I would not recommend this hotel and I am very surprised it carries the Wyndham name.

Looks great, then the problems start

Pros: kitchen uits
Cons: Noisy, serious design flaws, many things didn't work
Walked in an said wow, everything we wanted including a view of the beach! Turned on the AC and head a clatter that would wake the dead, 2 hours later they replaced it with a new one (these are recently remodelded units). While the maintenance man was fixing the AC my wife started to draw a bath in the oversized jacuzzi tub - except it didn't hold water because the stopper was broken. An hour later that was fixed. Only it still took 2 hours to fill the tube because it holds about 90 gallons and the water heater is about 20-30 gallons. I went out to get some dinner only I had to feel my way down the steps. The outdoor lights didn't come one until well after dark. The toilet paper holder fell off and was so poorly assembled it couldn't hold TP. My wife finally got in a warm tub and turned on the jets - the water level started to drop like a dam was open. They fixed that the next day but we never did find out where all those gallons of water went. The AC was now working, but the design of the room meant it was blowing directly on the person sleeping on the rights side of the bed. At 2am I gave up and moved to the couch. It was hot over there because even cranked way up, it wouldn't cool the whole room. The second night we moved the bed and were able to sleep OK. Then, time to leave. Naturally, the elevator was broken. Needed to haul our stuff by hand. These are time share units some poor owners just paid a pile to renovate. They really didn't get their money's worth. Avoid this place at all costs!

Loved the property - Hated the time share pitch!

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet, beautiful place!, near the beach, washer/dryer right in room, modern appliances, all neccessities silverware etc available!, spectacular views
Cons: sales pitch, concierge untruthful regarding sales pressured pit, high pressure salesman timeshare! boooo!
My family of 6 absolutely adored the resort at Sea Gardens! It was clean, well maintained and the room was spectacular. I have 0 negatives to report against the staff or the grounds...in fact it exceeded my expectations! HOWEVER...! My only complaint is at check in I was informed that I had to obtain my 'parking permit' from another section up front. This was a welcoming group (who turned out to be a time-share "concierge" type group)! I understand that people and businesses have a right and a need to earn business and money but this left a bad taste in stay. I was told that I needed the parking permit to park on the property but had to obtain this from the time-share folks. I now know that this was a trap. I'm still on vacation and have a good attitude even though I am sort of tired and want to relax in the room and go about my vacation business...I tolerate this (one, because I have to if I want the parking pass but two, because I'm still in a good mood on vacation)! The next portion is what slightly upset me. The concierge told me that we should schedule the meeting with the property to participate in a "SURVEY" because the hotels were going through renovation. She then told us that there would be "NO TRYING TO SELL THINGS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT". This is what bothers me. She set us up for free gifts...we chose the 'Outback Steakhouse' and she even added a 2 or 3 night stay at various facilities throughout the country. A couple of days later, I went through the most annoying, stressful, embarrassing high pressure sales pitch in my life! The main host was not so bad and seemed to understand our financial situation (until we said NO and then he changed his nice demeanor as well) but the back up gentlemen (they sent 2)pushed and pushed even after I said NO at least 3 times! Again, I understand that folks have a right to earn a buck but not when I am on vacation trying to get away from stress in general. Once the sales "pushers" realized that I wasn't buying anything from them they became rude and suddenly I wasn't so valuable to them anymore! It didn't sting as much as it normally would becasue during the sales push my children were allowed to swim and even eat free sandwiches at the resort where this took place. I did EARN a steak dinner (which my family devoured as EARNED spoils)! They gave us $75 towards the dinner. This took the sting away a bit but all in all I WILL NEVER PARTICIPATE IN SUCH A TRAP EVER AGAIN! I'll buy my own steak thank you. I guess I just would have appreciated upfront honesty...something like, "it is a sales pitch but we have these gifts for you and you can decline." There was another "free gift" that promised a 2 day hotel getaway at various locations. After reviewing the policies/rules regarding this free gift it was NOT such a good deal...probably a ploy to have you participate in more surveys! I thought it would be a survey of the area and properties since they "were renovating". Bad experience but the Sea Gardens was so nice and beautiful that it didn't compare to the enjoyment we experienced at the resort overall. I would recommend that you stay in the "tower" section because other reviews talk of a poor room experience. I can vouch that the 10 floor section was great...the other sections of the hotel kind of looked dated and possibly not as nice but I don't know for sure. The pools, grounds and staff were all great. I would stay here again in a heartbeat but WATCH OUT for the sales pitch! Pompano Beach is so quiet at night and our room had a great view of the ocean, the cool river and a very quiet town!

Excellent hotel for the price

We enjoyed staying at this hotel; great location and excellent amenities. However, we did not have free wi-fi in the room as originally offered (you have to pay for it). We were "upgraded" to a one bedroom condo for no extra charge, which was lovely. Watch out for the timeshare pitch from the concierge, though!

OK, but not for the price

It took us the entire day to try to check into a room. Every time we tried, we were told that the room was not ready, and then given a specific time to be back and the room would be ready. Each time we came back *after* the time, and the room was not ready. When we were finally checked into the room and opened the door, the room was completely untouched, and very dirrty. At this point, I went to the front desk and told them the room was *still* not ready--and dirty. Eventually, they had moved us to a different, "much nicer" room. The room was indeed much nicer: it was actually clean! Other than that, it was toward the low end of what I had expected: a fairly simple one bedroom condo. Given the price of the room, the room we were originally assigned would have been a significant disappointment: it was small, it was old, and it was dirty (not just uncleaned but poorly maintained). The "hotel" is actually several different buildings on both sides of a fairly busy road. The pool is on one side, the beach on the other. Therefore, many rooms have no view of anything, and you'll have to cross the road to get to the beach. This is *far* from a resort: you're probably not going to be entertained without leaving the grounds. In short, it's not terrible, but there are better values around--even with the upgraded room. If we had had to stay in the original room, it would have been a much poorer experience. For the price paid (more than $* a night), a review of mostly "Okay" is *not* OK! :)

the most friendly hotel I have ever experienced

This property is very pretty with lush landscaped grounds, 2 hot tubs, 3 pools. The best experience was the staff, from front desk to grounds management! Every single staff person we encountered was friendly and always greeted us. Our room was spacious and clean. This property had activities every day that we enjoyed. Karaoke, bingo, games ,and music. The beach is across the street from the main complex. Very enjoyable.
