How to get through airport security fast when traveling to Columbus

If you like the thought of spending more time at the airport bar and less time moving through security on your way to Columbus, follow these suggestions:

  • Have your boarding pass and travel ID somewhere handy. They'll be the first things you'll be instructed to produce by security personnel.
  • It's useful to know that belts with metal buckles can set off the body scanner's alarms. If you have one on, you may be told to remove it before proceeding.
  • Laptops need to be removed from their protective carry bags and placed in a tub before being scanned.
  • When you get to the security checkpoint, you'll be asked to put all creams, liquids and gels in a separate tray for scanning. Make sure they're all packed in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and sealed in a clear zip-lock bag.
  • Steel-cap boots and other cumbersome shoes are most often X-rayed at the security checkpoint. It might be wise to wear simple sneakers instead.
  • Multi-tools and corkscrews are prohibited inside the plane. Stash them away in your checked luggage to avoid forfeiting them at the security checkpoint.
