How to get through airport security fast when traveling to Phoenix

Your journey to Phoenix begins the minute you've finished the security checks. Here are some tips and pointers to help you pass through quickly:

  • Ensure your passport and boarding pass are not hard to access. You will be instructed to show them straightaway.
  • Bear in mind that metal belt buckles can set off the body scanner's alarms. If you're wearing one, you may be told to remove it before continuing.
  • Electronic devices such as tablets, laptops and phones are always sent through the X-ray machine separately. Be sure you can get to them quickly.
  • Hand cream, toothpaste and other toiletry items in liquid, gel or cream form need to be stored in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). They also need to fit in a 1-quart (1-liter) clear zip-lock plastic bag.
  • Security personnel will likely ask you to remove your shoes prior to entering the body scanner. Choose a pair that you can slip off easily. There's nothing worse than having to do up your laces over and over again.
  • The list of prohibited items is forever changing. Have a look at your airline's website to find out what is not allowed on board their flights.
