I did not like thinking from the advertising that I would be getting a nice property near an airforce base and instead getting converted barracks. I would not have booked an old repurposed building on purpose.

We were here for a week for a family vacation. We LOVED the room, the grounds, the atmosphere, the neighborhood, the staff, the pool, and the service. It’s an old Air Force base turned into a hotel and it’s modernized but true to the Art Deco style of the time. I only wish my room had a bathtub, but the little kitchenette was a nice surprise. The bed was wonderful. There was very little noise from adjoining rooms. The walkways were quiet, treelined, and charming. We didn’t use the bar onsite but it looked warm and welcoming. The choices at the restaurant were limited but the prices were fair and the staff was exceptional. The pool and hot tub surrounded by outdoor seating was really nice. This will be a yearly tradition for us.

The room was great visiually, clean, and comfortable. It was difficult getting the temperature right at night. The room was pretty warm. It was in the thirties and we ended up running the air. The beds were a little firm. Restaurant was good. Food was really tasty.

Older hotel, reminded me more of a motel.

Pros: On site dining
Hotel was fairly clean. Parking was not that good, and no elevator to get luggage upstairs in the building we were located.

Would Stay Again

The Lions Gate is a beautiful, old hotel on the grounds of McClellan AFB. It used to be an officers quarters but has been renovated into a comfortable hotel. There are several buildings with regular rooms and suites, a large pool area, laundry rooms and a nice bar/restaurant. We went for 2 nights and brought our teenage son. The desk clerk very kindly upgraded us to a 2 bed 2 bath suite at no extra charge. The architecture was old fashioned, but the rooms have been completely updated and are very comfortable, no problem with plumbing or anything like that. Our suite even had a tiny kitchen, which was a nice extra, and the bathrooms (our son loved having his own) had nice toiletries. We ate most of our meals in their restaurant, good food for a reasonable price, service a tiny bit slow, but we weren't in a hurry. All in all, very pleasant, and we will stay there again the next time we have business in Sacramento.

Beautiful Grounds

I had a pleasant stay at the Lion's Gate. The grounds were beautifully kept, the pool was relaxing. The staff was very helpful and nice. The building is older, from 1930s. The rooms are okay, but have an "old" feeling that's not too charming, but acceptable. I would definitely stay there again, and would recommend the place to someone looking for value for their money. If you are expecting the Ritz, don't stay here. However, it was a large step above Super 8. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

This was a nice hotel. Staff was friendly. The breakfast had a variety of foods to pick from.
