Nice Individual Units with Stellar Restaurant!

Pros: Dinner & Breakfast were incredible over and over! Entire Staff was super nice and friendly aside from 2 people. Kids enjoyed biking. Dinner on Patio.
Cons: People that lack hospitality is a dark stain in a 5 star experience. My complaint was misunderstood & unresolved. Decide 12yrs vs 13yrs at big pool!!
Location: Ride bikes to Downtown Calistoga for small town shopping, check our Black Bird. 30+ minutes to St. Helena & give yourself an hour for Yountville.
This was our first time staying this deep into wine country and Calistoga. We tend to go to Yountville or St. Helena for our Labor Day weekend over the last 20 years. Our trips needs were a swimming pool, good food and bringing the dog with us (Small). Arrived Friday and after the bustle of traffic up 29 - had reservations at the Sol Bar restaurant at the Hotel. We arrived to a nice tucked away place in the flats of the vineyards just off the Silverado Trail. A guy greeted us curbside and offered to check us in while we waited in the car. Then, we followed him to our unit on his bike. Black Beach Cruisers come with your room~great to pop over to Calistoga. Our unit was clean and new, iPad for info about hotel & spa & in room dining. Font patio with couches to chill, large shower, no tub, tall ceilings, tall closet with shelves but no drawers. Dinner & Breakfast were incredible, very impressive! Not all hotels can deliver this! (My husband & I thought of all the places we've been)...and it IS pretty rare. I heard Michelin rated, did not check, so not sure. People everywhere were incredibly nice and friendly. Going to Wine tasting the first night I was spoken to sternly by the pool guy about having a dog. Had to rush my tasting as he made 1-time exception. The next day, headed to the big pool, as in the pictures-pool guy stopped us "no kids", the iPad in our room said 12 years & older. NO MENTION of this at booking. Vacation felt tense, kids uneasy. Mixed emotions about stay.

Outstanding experience, beautiful buildings and grounds and a world-class service/staff

We stayed for 2 nights at Solage and had I known beforehand how really great it would be, I would have booked at least two more. The rooms were light filled and superbly outfitted in subdued tones in handsome, classically modern decor. The bathroom was huge and luxurious. The room even included a bar with fresh ground coffee which was replenished daily. I believe each room has it's own private patio and a pair of bicycles to use to navigate the property and surrounding town. The spa facilities, extensive grounds and multiple pools were beautiful and beautifully maintained. The staff really stands out for excellent service and completely courteous attitude -- every request was accommodated with a smile. My only real complaint was that the standard linen service included only two bath towels and you had to do something specific to have them changed each day. I requested more and was promptly given additional towels, but when you see hundreds of towels rolled-up, on each pool chair and in endless stacks at the pool and spa it seems a bit stingy not to have more than two provided in the room. This is especially true as this is a spa and it's likely that more baths will be needed due to treatments and exercise. It is a very minor point in an otherwise flawless experience. I can't wait to go again. The staff seems to have hit on that just right blend of helpfulness without over-familarity or lurking... they do what you need them to in an almost invisable way .. but appear in just the right spot when needed. I'm hooked.

Outstanding hotel with a great restaurant

We had the most wonderful time at Solage! We arrived super late one night after hitting traffic coming out of SF. We were saying silent prayers the whole way up hoping they were still serving dinner as we were starved! We got there around 9PM, and greeted by a wonderful receptionist who alerted the kitchen we were coming! We had the most spectacular meal at their bistro, the Solbar...truly the best of our trip (separate review). The room was super comfortable and we had a heavenly night?s sleep. The fireplace warmed us up wonderfully. My husband was delighted with the fact that you could make your own strength coffee (they provide the coffee grounds versus prepackaged amounts). I loved the Sumbody amenities and ended up buying them at the Spa to give my best friend for her birthday. I wished we had stayed longer to use the bicycles, but what a lovely touch! We did stay for breakfast the next morning which we have to say was the absolute highlight of the entire trip (another separate review). All I will say is try the made to order cinnamon sugar donuts - oh my goodness! This is a gem of a hotel and we will definitely be coming back with friends to visit the wineries surrounding the area. This is a much better location than staying in Napa. We had stayed at the Carneros Inn the week before and we definitely prefer Solage.
