The room was dirty and freezing cold. The bed sheet had a sex stain in it and the glass plate in the microwave was beyond filthy. The bathroom was so cold I didn’t even take a shower and I never felt a drop of hot water to wash my hands even though I let it run for a very longtime. While looking for a tv station guide, I found a package of opened marijuana gummies in a drawer (which I don’t object to but if a child had found them and thought they were candy, could have been a problem). Check in was terrible. I had a been driving for 6 hours and trying to recover from a death in the family and just wanted a warm room and hot bath. I got stuck waiting outside in the cold for 20 minutes while the owner was attending to an emergency. Then I walked into an absolutely freezing room with no hot water. There were little black bugs that jumped all over and something bit me on the neck. I did call the owner about the microwave plate and it took her a half hour to bring a tray for bathroom?! I had to explain again that it was the microwave that was the problem and that I was very hungry and wanted to heat my soup and could she please clean the plate. I had tried to clean it myself but the lack of hot water made getting the cheese and grease off it impossible. I left after one night and the owner refused to refund the second night. This place is terrible and the ad for it is very misleading. It is located right on Highway 1 so bring a white noise machine.

This motel is not unlike most of the others long this strip. It is not expensive nor is it fancy. Our room was clean and a place to sleep for the night. It was probably built in the 1960s or 1970s. The manager (owner?) was very nice and let us check in an hour early. I am sure Covid has made it more difficult for her. They installed a window for check-in that is like a movie theatre ticket booth and when you leave you just drop your key in an outside box. If you are looking for an inexpensive place to just sleep for a night with nothing fancy, this place is fine. It is clean and has tv and wifi.

We are working hard to make better place for our guess.

Decent Hotel for the purpose.

They advertise a restaurant, but it's closed and doesn't look like it will be reopened anytime soon. Their spa and massage system is very nice and relaxing. The rooms are clean and 'efficient' and serve their purpose. Close enough to walk to the beach.

We had read some very negative reviews online just after we had booked our stay so we had some concerns. However, the owners were very gracious, our room was adequately supplied with every item we would have wanted. The bed was a king and very comfortable. Had coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave. Costs upon ck out were were lower than our prepaid amt so we have some questions about that. Were we charged twice? travelocity and local owner??

Do not stay here

Chong, as she stated that was her name, was extremely rude and unhelpful. I booked thru Travelocity & room was already paid for prior to arrival. She preceded to try to get more money from me with lame excuse as to why I needed another room which was more than room I booked. Horrible experience do not stay here!

Not what is promised

My husband and I decided on the Coast Inn and Spa because they claimed to be pet friendly and we were traveling with our dog. Some places don't allow you to leave your dog alone in the room which is clearly indicated on their websites, however this place did NOT say that online, or when we called to ask them about their pet policy OR when we checked in. After our first outing on the first day, the owner approached me and in a very abrupt way told me that I couldn't leave our dog alone in the room. I was surprised to hear this since it had never been mentioned before and I let her know that . She argued with me for quite some time even though I assured her that our dog was well behaved and would not, as she claimed, tear up the room or chew up the mattress. I understand her concerns however the way she approached it was incredibly disrespectful and rude. By the end of the conversation I was so angry and frustrated I wanted to check out and find somewhere else to stay, but per her website she has a one week cancellation policy with no refunds. The other main concern I had with the place was the hot tub. When we checked in the owner told my husband that the hot tub had just been refilled Tuesday (we checked in Wednesday) and it should be hot soon. I was pretty bummed about not being able to use it that night, but figured I had four more days to use it. The next night we got in and it was kind of lukewarm, but we enjoyed it anyway. The night after that we went to get in at 9:15pm and it was barely tepid. My husband went to ask about it and she said she turns it off at 9pm. She said that is how she wants to do it and would not discuss it further. I can't believe she doesn't realize that turning it OFF and leaving it uncovered all night means that when she turns it on the next morning it will take all day, maybe longer, to reheat! The next night when we went to use it at 7pm (well before the UN-POSTED closing time of 9pm) it was cold. At this point we had indicated we wanted to use the hot tub multiple times, including at check in, but she refused to turn it on or keep it warm. I was also pretty disappointed by the room, it looked really nice online but the paint was peeling away from the walls in the shower, the heat light didn't work in the bathroom, and the "flat screen TV" listed as one of the features of the room (online) was actually a big old TV. The "free wi fi" was basically unusable, even for simple tasks like checking email. There is almost no cell phone reception in the hotel, however local calls are free on the land line in the room. The one thing that was nice about the room was that the bed was comfortable and the sheets were soft. Finally, one of the main reasons we were interested in the place was the Cafe, however it had a handwritten sign saying it was closed, and from the other reviews I have read I am not sure that it is ever open. When we went to the lobby to check out at 10am (check out is required by 11am) there was a sign on the door that said she would be gone until 11:45am. We had wanted to review our bill and also to have her take a look at the room to make sure she agreed our dog had not caused any damage. By not staffing the hotel at all during normal check out times we were not able to ensure our bill is correct and does not include any extra charges. I would like to strongly recommend that you do not stay at this hotel.

Bad experience with manager

My experience with Coast Inn throughout the stay was awful. When I first walked into the room, I thought it was not the best room, but the price was fitting. The more time I spent in the room, looking around, I realized there was little to no attention paid from maintenance and housekeeping. On my second day in the room, I decided I should let the manager know the bathroom door wouldn't close and the fan in the bathroom didn't work. His response was that he was working on remodeling the rooms, and I was not offered a different room. When I went to check out, I told the manager that I was not looking for a free stay or anything, but wanted to let him know that the room was awful. His first response was, "well, you picked the cheapest room so.." I said, "so it's my fault the room is disgusting?" He said, "no, but when I travel, I stay at the Marriott or the Hyatt, and you can always pick apart a hotel." After I told him I didn't think this room was worth $71 a night, he put his hand up and walked away from me. I think a professional manager would have at the very least apologized for my unpleasant experience. He did not apologize once. He just said that if I had said something earlier, he could have helped me (and laughed as he said it), although I had already told him I wasn't looking for a free night or anything. At the end of the day, I checked my bank account balance, and I was charged twice for the room! Here is a link to some pictures I took of the room I got (hope it works): http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v290/chenchabear/Mobile%20Uploads/

Dark & Dingy

The front desk lady was very nice but the room itself was extremely old, dark, and dingy. I haven't traveled much in the last few years but I guess I expected something a bit nicer for $*. I was almost expecting a visit from Norman Bates' mother. Don't get me wrong, the room was clean but even it it's cleanest state, this would never be a nice room.
