Hotel was very nice but I booked a room with two queen beds and was given one king bed despite contacting Travelocity to ensure securing two queen beds. When checking in at hotel I was told there were no rooms available with two queen beds. I felt this was a failure on Travelocity’s part since i initIally booked a room with two queens and when I followed up with Travelocity you did not follow through on my request.

No Paradise

Pros: I liked the lagoons with the fishes and turtles but it did not make up for the rest.
Cons: The hotel is overpriced for it's condition and quality of service.
Location: Remote. You have to drive a few miles to the nice beaches. The hotel beaches and the two other it shuttles you to, has dead reefs with no visibility.
I booked a mountain view room and received a parking lot view room with no privacy. My balcony overlooked the parking lot and hotel entrance with the hotel employees standing out there all day. I couldn't even leave the blinds open because the hotel shuttle sat out there all day with a perfect view of my room. I spoke to staff to try to change my room but was told everything else would be considered an upgrade and would cost an additional $100 a day so I stayed in the horrible room. The hotel food was overpriced as well. The staff was not friendly. I didn't feel the aloha spirit. I wish I had stayed somewhere else.

My favorite hotel on the Big Island.

Over the years we have stayed at several different places on the Big Island; this is our second stay at the Mauna Lani. I cant imagine staying anywhere else. The hotel is beautifully designed and landscaped with both salt and freshwater ponds. The beach is clean and easy to access. You can snorkel right off the beach. I hate it when hotels add the extra $25 resort fee, but we did get beach cabanas, lots of towels, snorkel equipment, parking, internet and pool equipment and more all for that price. The staff is outstanding. Many are long term employees, which I think speaks well for the hotel. If i have a complaint it is about the food. Dinner options were more limited than I like and the restaurants in the hotel close at 8:30 PM (maybe this is different in High season, ?). The breakfast buffet has a good selection of food though I thought overpriced. I was disappointed in their upscale restaurant, Canoe House. There are lots of other restaurant choices however in the area. We were upgraded to an ocean front room. It was heaven; we left the patio door open at night and feel asleep to the sound of the ocean waves.

Nice Hotel

Pros: Location and staff
Cons: Better food choices at the Ocean bar and grill. Maybe a better price on adult beverages. ( Or go to the store down at the shops for all the fixings)
This is the second time we had stayed at this hotel in recent years and we enjoyed it just as we did the last time. The staff is extremely friendly and they seem to care about you and what your plans are for your stay. This trip we didn't do a lot of of tours or activities which was exactly what we needed. Being right on a nice small beach with great sunsets every night was the medicine we needed. I would like to thank the Ocean bar and grill staff for their friendliness and the accommodating atmosphere they exude. Even though this is a "resort" hotel it is not stuffy and is the laid back style that I yearn for while on vacation. Expect to pay more for food and drinks on the property but that is pretty much the norm.

One of the great resorts on the Big Island

Pros: The beaches, the grounds.
Cons: Overall focus on upgrading the property.
Location: The Big Island is a very special place - period.
Been going here since i was a kid. It was the finest new hotel in the 80's. But now, the hotel is looking a little dated and tired. --> To the management. Spend some money and fix it up. Looks like no one cares anymore. If it wasn't for the incredible grounds and beaches, we would go elsewhere. The food is below average with 5-star luxury resort prices. I mean really, two coffees and a cookie. $18! Come on. We ate there once on our 12 night stay. So what I am saying here is bring the grand dame back to it's heritage. Otherwise, my memories will be just that, a memory of what the Mauna Lani once was.

Outstanding Resort Hotel at Reasonable Price

Pros: Beautiful setting and comfortable room, outstanding service.
Cons: Nothing!
Location: Golf, spa and shopping nearby as well as beach activities available through the hotel. Half hour drive to Kona for most commercial activities.
This was actually the least expensive of the three main hotels we stayed in during our trip, but it was by far the best. The staff was welcoming from the moment we stepped onto the property, and provided lots of small touches that made a big difference throughout our five night stay. Beautiful pool area, great beach with comfortable chairs and cabanas and complimentary snorkeling gear that we could use right off the hotel beach. Lovely grounds, great fish ponds and historical area to walk through. Room was comfortable and clean with nice lanai and beautiful ocean view. Would definitely stay here again!

Home away from home

Pros: Public areas are spacious and airy. Staff are amazing and personal. We get the sea front room and we just love the view. Room are great - not fancy
Cons: Restricted on variety of eating options. If you like nightlife this is not for you. No bar - mostly closed down after 9. We like this aspect.
Location: Star watching. Sunset cruise. Harley rental. Golf. Spa.
We have been to the Mani Launi several times. We go to other hotels in Hawaii and then always come back here. It is very low key and relaxing. We enjoy the golf and the spa also.
