Fresh, remodeled one bedroom, best unit in the building!

This double lanai, dual view top floor penthouse is absolutely over the top!

Unit 606 is a very unique property. It was originally built as the developer of the building's private suite. Based on the size, spaciousness and views of the unit, he used it as a location to host cocktail parties and neighborhood gatherings. Over its life, the unit has had very few owners and mostly was used as a gathering space.

We recently purchased it and proceeded with a large scale remodel. The results are spectacular. New double pane glass to provide silence when you want, and huge doors to bring the outside in when you prefer.

Modern, fully updated spotless condo with TWO great views of the ocean. Because of the unique corner aspect of the unit, you also get views of Haleakala and the West Maui Mountains. There are only a handful of units in all of Kihei with these views. Everything is new, from the stainless appliance package to the front load washer and dryer, Egyptian cotton beach towels and super high quality linens. This unit is a huge one bedroom with nearly 1000 square feet of open, airy space.

Every time we enter our condo, we are struck by how beautiful the views are. One wall of the living room is entirely made of glass, and the light fills the whole space. In addition, one wall of the master bedroom is glass also, with commanding views of the south Maui coastline. The glass has been replaced with thick double pane glass to provide quiet and to moderate the Maui sun. Most units haven't invested in the expense of new glass. At $22,000, I understand why, but the increase in comfort is extreme. I wouldn't rent a unit that did not have updated glass. The lanais are over 16 feet wide and provide a great space to hang out, watch the waves and surfers, and enjoy the tropical weather.

We have furnished our condo to be modern and comfortable. You will find full sized couch and chairs, a king sized bed, tons of storage, large closets. The kitchen is outfitted with a new whirlpool appliance suite including microwave, dishwasher, self cleaning glass topped range and refrigerator with ice maker. We even have special outlets that have USB chargers built into them. We provide top quality pans, knives and small appliances.

Free WiFi, phone calls to the US and Canada. A large flat screen TV in the living room and another flat screen in the bedroom. The living room has a blu ray player. There is a radio with a provided cord to plug in your ipad, ipod, iphone or MP3 player as well as a speaker that can connect to your phone or iPod via Bluetooth.

Island surf is in a great central location. Immediately to the north is a area the locals call 'the Triangle'. It has lots of shops and scores of restaurants and night spots. Across the street is Kalama park, offering playgrounds, roller hockey, volleyball, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking and wide open spaces to play catch or just hang on the grass. You can watch your friends and family play in the surf right from the front room.

A short drive to the south puts you in the heart of Wailea with upscale dining, shopping and more wonderful beaches.

Island surf houses many great businesses. You can rent bicycles, get a manicure or spa treatment, book a scuba dive, rent surf boards, or eat a great plate lunch all without never leaving the building.

There is a pool and BBQ area on the second floor, both with ocean views.

Since we have two units in the building, and work with the owner of the unit adjacent to ours on the 6th floor, we can offer wedding party accommodations with berths for up to 12 people.

The unit has a king bed and we have a port a crib for an infant. The unit can handle two adults sharing the same bed and a toddler or an infant. Total of three guests.

We have a two bedroom/two bathroom unit in the same building. Some guests combine the units as they have family and friends come during their stay. The two bedroom unit is vrbo.com # 454560.

Island Surf Building is entirely NON SMOKING. Owners and guests are not allowed to smoke in units, on walkways, on Lanais or in common areas. There is one very small designated smoking area in a corner of the back parking lot. Quite honestly, if there is a smoker or vaper in your party, this is not a good fit for your vacation. My advice would be to seek other accommodations. Anyone found smoking in a restricted area is subject to a significant fine.

This condo is licensed for vacation rentals, Hawaiian tax id. #TA-042-517-0944-01. Beware of condo owners not providing their tax number, often they are scams or not licensed. If you are looking at a rental that does not provide their number, they are probably operating illegally. Please be careful, the state is enforcing these and you may find yourself without a place to stay when you arrive. Try googling 'nonpermitted vacation rentals target of enforcement' to see a recent article on the issue. Kauai recently closed 320 non-permitted vacation rentals with two weeks notice and all the guests were left without accommodations.

Matt & Colleen have a beautiful cond on the 6th floor of this beautiful sight right across the street from any thing you could imagine to do at the beach. Would definitely come back during whale season. The unit was well supplied, clean and beautifully decorated.

Best view on the beach!
We felt that we were coming to stay in someone's home--who had arranged everything for our comfort. It's the top floor, truly best view on the beach, looked like a painting of palm trees, water and sky! Whenever we were in the suite, we opened the sliding glass doors--the temperature was perfect around the clock, the nightime quiet was a good contrast to the street sounds of the day. We followed all of Matt's recommendations--the food trucks around the corner, the lilikoi french toast up the street. Matt was in good contact, let us know that we could check in early, of which we took advantage. We made multiple stops on this trip, all great, but this was my favorite!

Great condo, location & views

Absolutely the best!
Selfishly I want this place to stay a hidden gem but because Matt and Colleen were such fantastic hosts and we absolutely loved their space, I’m leaving this review for future guests. The condo exceeded our expectations. Everything from the location to the space itself, we found ourselves wanting to spend time just relaxing on the lanai, watching the sunrises and sunsets, and not to mention seeing so many whales. Although we had a rental car, it was a nice option having beaches and food nearby that we could walk to every day. I honestly have nothing negative to say about this place. If you’re considering staying here don’t hesitate, book now.

Perfect!
Everything was just so amazing....this is an excellent location both for restaurants/bars and beaches. We stayed up in the northwest part of the island last time and, overall, this location was way better. The balconies provide excellent views of the ocean and sunset. The food trucks behind the building are all amazing! Highly recommend the Acai bowls and shave ice among others....you won't regret your stay here!!!

Perfect vacation
My husband and I loved our stay at Matt's condo during Thanksgiving! We really appreciated the cooler, snorkel gear, & everything needed for the beach. We also loved having a wash machine so we could rinse our suits and hang them on the extra shower rod. We enjoyed the deli downstairs for sandwiches on the go & all the great, local restaurants & bars within walking distance. Lastly, the morning & nightly views from the balconies were exceptional. Perfect place for coffee in the morning & wine at night. If we ever go back to Maui, we will defintely reach out to Matt again!

Best Sunset Views!
Steps to the ocean, shops, and South Maui Gardens, this condo was perfect for my husband and me for 9 days (and we wished we could have stayed longer). It's big and bright and may have the best views in Kihei. Despite the proximity to great restaurants (and food trucks), we mostly cooked in the extremely well-appointed kitchen and enjoyed our meals on one of the two lanais. This is a great location for being active (paddle boarding, surfing, outrigger canoeing) or just relaxing. Matt and Colleen have outfitted this condo with everything needed for a fun and relaxing stay.

Penthouse 5 Star!
We have stayed in many condos over the last 20 years in Island Surf. Island Surf 606 is the best 1 bedroom unit in the entire building! Master bedroom with awesome views and living room with awesome views! Condo completely updated with quality furnishings! Did I mention the location? Best location in Kihei! Walk to shops and quality restaurants! And short walk to Charley Young Beach! Thank you Matt and Colleen for sharing your condo! We will be back!
