too many add-on fees

the hotel was fine except that parking was $38 per night (!) and an "amenities fee" of $15 per night. These specific fees are only mentioned once you get there. $53 per night in fees is too much when you're purchasing from Travelocity - which is supposed to provide deals.

There are two sets of rooms.

The rooms overlooking pool are nice but the other feel like they are part of a parking garage -- don't end-up there.

Friendly staff, bad hotel

Pros: friendly staff
Cons: No free Internet, Noisy, all the above
The staff is very friendly and professional and the pool area is upgraded and beautiful. Unfortunately, that is where the comfort stops. There is a separate building, across an alleyway, where we were to stay and it had the feel of a mental hospital. Our room had a light switch that was not attached to a light, the room was dark, our bathtub lacked a plug, the bathroom door would always swing open and when we turned on the shower it sounded like a freight train was going to come through the tile. There was no "guide" book to the hotel and although there is a fitness room we only knew that due to another web site. Our room also did not even have a coffee maker and we were entertained by listening to the conversations on both sides of our room.

The staff were most welcoming. We had an excellent stay

Pros: historial hotel
This is a niche hotel that was just perfect for my family as we came to Hollywood to celebrate Gloria Stewarts 100th birthday. We enjoyed our stay and would return were we to be in the area. The historical nature of the hotel was very important to us for this specific celebration. The breakfast we had by the pool the day we departed was excellent, and the younger family members (in their 40s) really enjoyed sitting by the pool and enjoying a late evening drink.

Overall great location and the service was very good and freindly.

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, location
I was very pleased with this hotel for both the location and the amenities. While it look slike it was renovated 6-7 years ago and could use a little freshing in some of the facilities, the softgoods and amenities (body wash, lotion, etc) were excellent. and I loved the 42 flat screens in each roo. The fitness center was small and cramped but the water and fresh fruit made up for it. And I understand that they are in the process of taking two room to double the space. The restaurant was fair. Though busy, it plaed in comparison to some of the restaurants within walking distance. Overall, I will be back and was extremely pleased

Great Hotel (only valet parking available)

This was a great boutique hotel! Great service and very reliable. Travelers should know that this hotel has only valet parking available. The valet parking was GREAT, but the cost was $30 per day. We stayed for 7 days, so that was an additional $210 that we had not anticipated. It was a great service that we enjoyed taking advantage of, but we wish that we had known prior to arrival. The cost for wireless, high-speed internet was very affordable at $50/week, and the speed was very reliable. Our room had a balcony that overlooked the pool area, and it really is as beautiful as the photos on the website make it seem. During the evenings, the pool area contains a bar, and it can be quite active. The music was somewhat loud, but not bothersome for us. My wife and I have no kids so the late-night music and activity was actually enjoyable, however some families might have wanted more "peace and quiet". You are very much "on display" when swimming in the pool which could be good or bad depending on what you are looking for. We had problems on the first day with weak plumbing, but the staff took care of the problem quickly and effectively. The staff was always attentive to our needs. We also had a few problems with their new TV system, and these problems were never totally resolved. This was a new TV system for the hotel, and I have confidence that they will make the necessary adjustments for the future. Because of these problems, they did everything they could including offering a different room and even comping our valet charges for that day. The location was perfect for visitors looking for an upscale and trendy visit to the LA area.
