A Fine Hotel in a Fine Location

Pros: Location, ease of valet, availability of restaurant/bar, comfort of room.
Cons: I guess it would be nice to have the bar/restaurant open all afternoon and to improve the quality a bit--although that would be hard to maintain.
Location: It's all about Pitt, UPMC Medical Center and other things walking distance in the Oakland Neighborhood.
Located at the western edge of Pitt, this is a fine place to stay when visiting campus. The Peterson Events Center is two blocks up the hill, and the center of campus is three blocks down Forbes Ave. Entrance to the hotel is on McKee Place, use 217 for your GPS and park in the garage with the Valet. That's really the only option and it will add $20 per day, but that's about what you get at any hotel parking in a city. There is a parking garage two doors down on Forbes which advertises $6 per day if you want to save a couple bucks. The valets were efficient and super available so everything went great and I didn't have to lug bags down the street. Hotel staff accommodated our special requests with aplomb. The restaurant is open for breakfast until 1PM but then not until 4PM for dinner and bar. Our dinner was OK; the staff did well to try to help us. It's nice to have it available on site for convenience and room service and whatnot; however, there are about 300 places nearby to get food and drink if necessary, as well as a "pantry" on site for snacks and soda vending / ice on the floor. Rooms have Keurig, refrigerator and microwave which was kind of nice. We had a good time. It was fine.

Nice hotel.

Pros: The bar, the proximity to Pitt.
Cons: Access to the lobby via stairs. Better pillows, I woke up with a sore neck. Club chair in the room.
Location: See my comments above. Went to a great restaurant Lucca on Friday evening, Phipps Conservatory for Christmas display on Saturday.
Came to Pittsburgh for the graduation of my son. The hotel is right across the street from the University of Pittsburgh. Great bar in the hotel, nice, friendly staff. Courtesy shuttle was great-driver very nice guy, took us to our restaurant Friday night and then picked us up after. Close to museums, restaurants, a CVS is right around the corner, a Dunkin Donuts up the street a few blocks. Lots of places to eat, Stack'd Burgers and Beer was a hit. The one thing about the hotel that drove me crazy is for an 8 or 9 floor hotel to only have two elevators and no access to stairs to the lobby is insane - the wait time was ridiculous. We were on the 2nd and 3rd floors and would have taken the stairs if they had one that went to the lobby. Also, they should have one good chair at least to sit in in the room. That desk chair is unwieldy and awkward and too big. Just being picky here, but I would rather have had a nice club chair in the corner.

Helpful staff, uncomfortable beds

Staff extremely helpful and free shuttle to museum was great. Surprised at how uncomfortable the bed was - otherwise it was a very good experience.

Very clean, comfortable room at Pitt

There are only a few hotels right at the University. I attended a conference so chose the Hilton Garden based on reviews and proximity. It is very clean and comfortable. Nothing super fancy but nice enough. Our room on the 6th floor had a direct view of the Cathedral of Learning which was nice. We walked to several very nice restaurants. We did not eat at the hotel. $12.95 for breakfast seemed a bit steep when there was Pamela's and others within a 2 minute walk. Valet parking was our only option at $18 day. If I was not traveling out of the area a few days, I would have chosen not to rent a car, but use nearby public transportation.

My family and I stayed at this hotel over Thanksgiving Week 2012. As a immediate past diamond member of hilton honors, I don't know how Hilton management has allowed this hotel to stay within the group. Whatever remodeling was done was insuffient. Our refrigerator wasn't working properly and it was changed out for another poorly operating one; the bed was terrible; and staff were pleasant, but unresponsive to your needs. The sirens from the fire station a half block away occurred daily and of course at night, certainly nothing to do with the hotel, except why did Hilton purchase this property. Totally out of character for a Hilton property and I've stayed with the Hilton brand nationally and internationally.

Hotel is centrally located for University ralated activities.

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
With only a few waking hours of actual hotel exposure the hotel provided everything we needed for our very short stay. The only oddity was that the adjustable firmness controls for the Queen sized beds did not work for either bed. The bed comfort could have been much better. However, even with the beds not working to their full potential the bed was still more comfortable that what some other hotel chains currently offer. We did not have enough time to sample any of the other hotel amenities, like the resturant or fitness center. The room amenities were a notch or two above most standard hotels offer and the mini fridge & microwave came in handy.
