We had been to Melia Caribe 20 years ago for our first vacation together. I was looking forward to returning for our 20th anniversary but was extremely disappointed. Before the beach was available to all as were the restaurants and all amenities. Now they have divided guests into 4 levels, Melia, Melia Beach, Level 1 and Level 1 Adults only. So being a Melia we were offered nothing. The beach is roped off by levels and since it was small there was never a chair available. People save their chairs for the following days. Our only option to eat was the same buffet every day. Reservations for the restaurants were completely unavailable for our level. There was only one pool available to us and again no lounges available. It felt very defeating to be treated like this. Completely different resort than before. I had received an email offering me an upgrade since it was my birthday month but upon check in was told nothing was available and I would receive a call when an upgrade came up. Needless to say, that never happened. The staff was excellent, but most do not speak English. I don't know what happened to this resort but many others we spoke to that had been there before the changes said they would never go back. If you go, be sure to understand the levels so you don't make the mistake we made.

Only one buffet open during the dinner time , so many people that a lot of times there was not enough food , we had to wait for the chef to cook a new one .

Didn’t like - Rooms had 2 twin beds, instead of one king and two twin beds; entertainment was badly organized, performers didn’t show up, insufficient headsets for personal dj. Too many areas, restaurants, bars, pools Etcs were restricted to adults only or Melia members. Restaurants were always booked until 9:00 pm. And the food in one of the restaurants was inedible. The lamb chops were chewy and the chicken was rubbery

Room was very nice, as was most of the staff with the exception of our level upgraded Butler. He was of no help and didn’t pick us up on our last day to bring us to the lobby. My wife, 3 kids and myself had to drag our luggage really far to get to the checkout. Food wasn’t the best I have had in the Dominican.

Spend the extra money and stay somewhere else! Our beds were awful! Sunken in and the pull out mattress was as thick as 2 ply toilet paper. The door handle on the sliding glass door just fell off, no missing screws or anything it was just sitting in the holes of the door with nothing securing it. There were gross stains n potentially mold on the couch cushions. The food was gross, regularly undercooked! It was virtually impossible to get a reservation at any of the restaurants so we basically had the same 2 buffet options for our entire 8 day stay. The resort is very big, so there is a train to take you around, if your ever able to find it or feeling like waiting forever to catch it. The 'Waterpark' is perfect for young kids but definitely not what you would typically think of when you hear 'Waterpark'. I lodged my complaints with guest services and am still waiting for a response! Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere
