This a nice boutique hotel which in unfortunately in a not-so-great neighborhood of downtown San Francisco. But the neighborhood notwithstanding, it is a clean, modern hotel that is very comfortable.
I will complain, however, that the bathroom in my room (Room 901) was not very well designed.
My main issue was with the lack of hooks or towel bars to hang up towels and washcloths with. There was a single towel bar on the shower door and only 1 (one!) wall hook in the entire bathroom, and it wasn't anywhere near the sink, nor could it be reached from inside the shower. It may seem like a silly complaint until you are suddenly looking for places to hang up used cloths or towels. Or even a place to hang your change of clothes for when you get out of the shower.
The other complaint I have is the lack of water pressure in the bathroom. It is really low. Like, shockingly low. To point where you'd experience better water pressure if you took a shower outside when it is raining.

We had a lovely stay at the Clift Royal Sonesta. This area is extremely walkable, while also being close to transit. It's only a few blocks from the Powell Street cable car station, as well as the Powell Street BART line. We chose to walk nearly everywhere, and it was doable to get to most of the sights by foot.
We felt safe in the neighbourhood, and found the noise from outside to be very minimal in our room. The staff we interacted with were professional and friendly. Housekeeping did a lovely job on the days we had service.
One thing to keep in mind if you are a light sleeper is the noise from adjoining rooms. Not all rooms are adjoining, and I'd imagine a stay in one of those would be quieter. We had an adjoining room and while our neighbours were having an awesome time (which we were glad for), it did make it quite difficult to sleep. If you're sensitive to noise, I'd recommend asking for a non-adjoining room.
I'd definitely recommend a stay at the Clift.
