Horrible hotel guests - but amazing staff!

Pros: close to many concert and show venues
Cons: No free Internet
My husband and I had a weekend getaway based on a concert event in Raleigh on Friday and some volunteer construction work we were scheduled to do on Saturday. I was very impressed with the hotel, the room was clean and well appointed. After our concert we got back to our room and went straight to sleep since we had to leave early for our construction job in the morning. At 12:15 a.m. about 10-15 people decided to all prop open their hotel room doors and have a party in the hallway. I kept thinking they were leaving and waited to call the front desk until 12:35. As soon as I called the frontdesk they said security was on the way up. Of course it was at just this moment that the "party" decided to go out to more bars and left. They returned at intervals ranging from 2:45 - 4:00 in the morning. With each arriving group they banged on all their friend's doors and talked loudly in the hallway. Needless to say I did not get more than 3 hours sleep #and was supposed to be working on a roof installing shingles the next morning#. When we were checking out at 7:00 a.m. Brendan at the front desk asked how everything was & I repeated the above scenario. I was exhausted, close to tears, and angry all at the same time. Brendan was AWESOME! He immediately apologized and started working to make things right. I wasn't expecting the concern and empathy he showed and it absolutely made my morning bearable - if not almost pleasant. I already had my scathing reviews written up in my head, but because of Brendan and his eagerness to make things right - he totally turned my attitude around. I know that the hotel can not be resposible for every moron that stays there, I just wish there was a way to stop "hallway partying" before it starts. That being said the staff went above and beyond in my opinion.

Aaaahhhhh!

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, starbucks in lobby, walking distance to the convention center, walking distance to the auditorium, walking distance to the ampitheater, walking distance to the downtown museums, walking distance to the capitol building
Cons: not pet friendly
I actually live in Raleigh, but decided to stay here for New Year's Eve, as the acorn drop was happening directly in front of the hotel, and the First Night activities were within shouting distance of the front entrance, and I thought it would e more fun than having to worry about parking or driving home, but it turned out to e so much more than that! The hotel itself is gorgeous, and everyone was very helpful and professional. There are many good restaurants and clubs within walking distance, or a 5 minute drive to the Warehouse or Glenwood South areas for many more very good options, which may be accessible by the free "R Line" buses. There is also a real Starbucks attached to the front of the building (rather than a kiosk like some have). But, in my opinion, the best part of my stay was the swimming pool. Rather than the bathtub-sized disappointment hidden in so many hotels, they have a glorious, large, salt-water pool. It is the perfect temperature, and is accompanied by an actual large, HOT (but not too hot) hot tub, an impressive work-out center, and all with a great view of the new convention center and the Raleigh Auditorium. A real treat! Also, during the winter, right across from the front door, you can also find outdoor ICE SKATING! A real treat, particularly here "down south". and even nicer considering the sculptures, fountains, and other treats that Raleigh has installed in front of the Marriott when they re-opened Fayetteville St. to traffic after 10+ years. Even though I live here in Raleigh, I will be back when I need a relaxing weekend away from home or during events like Artsplosure, and I have already booked a room for next New year's Eve. It's that good!

Great hotel

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
Cons: No free Internet
I was at a conference at the convention center that is connected to the marriott by a hallway - super easy! The room was nice, that staff was great, and I was able to walk most places. The places I couldn't walk, had access to the free downtown bus. The restaurant was a little pricey, but that is to be expected in a hotel, and there were plenty of food options right around the hotel. The fitness room was great, so many times I go into a hotel fitness room and there is one treadmill and one elliptical, but there were 4-5 treadmills and 4 ellipticals with weights and bikes too. The internet was the most overpriced item of my stay. $9.95/day, which is a little surprising this day in age. I just think it is a nice touch to offer free wifi, expecially with so many business people staying there.

Favorite hotel in downtown Raleigh

Travel a lot for work and this hotel is one of my favorites. Rooms are nicely appointed. The indoor pool is fabulous and relaxing. The hotel is within walking distance to many downtown activities and restaurants but the hotel restaurant is a terrific restaurant itself and I eat there often. Staff is accommodating. Whether in the area for business or pleasure, you can't do much better.

Nice Stay, Staff a Little Inexperienced

The Marriott City Center is a brand new hotel right across from the new Raleigh Convention Center. The rooms are very nicely appointed. The bathroom, with granite countertops, soft fluffy towels, and a spacious shower, was very well done. Valet service for the car was $18 a day, but the drivers were courteous. I'm not a big fan of these upscale hotels, mostly because you have to tip someone every time you turn around, but the staff here was very accommodating, even if they occasionally didn't know what they were doing - this was the first big convention at the Convention Center, and the hotel has only been open for a few months. We had some snafus with room service and trying to hook up my laptop to the TV screen - again, mostly due to inexperience, rather than a lack of desire to please. Other than the minor snafus, we had a very nice stay. I would recommend it to other visitors with the understanding that staff will gain expertise with experience, and the parking is expensive.
