Very disappointed. The property has been having issues with the AC for some time now. The moment you walk in you can feel the heat. Also the rooms have a funny smell (like burnt) I had a couple nights and I left on the first one. Didn’t get a refund by the way. I was very exited about this hotel but won’t be coming back. Now I know.

The sullen greeting from check-in was only made worse by the ineptitude of the front desk staff, who couldn’t turn two separate reservations into one cohesive stay…my key didn’t work the second day, and they turned the AC off, because their system didn’t see I was in the room for another night - the roof too pool staff never once came over to offer help or a drink menu or food - I feel violated and ripped off - do better Since you carry the Hyatt cache - thanks for ruining my time with you

It is a great hotel and one of the best rooftops in the city, but definitely a club vibe, so the area is very noisy. More importantly, it is very expensive for the level of hotel that it is. For this price I would expect a 5 star experience.

DO NOT COME HERE - You'll regret it!
TL;DR: Thompson Hotel in Playa Del Carmen is completely understaffed, the current staff is untrained. Terrible guest experience. Clear management problem. The pool is frigid. There are literally 0 guests in the pool at any moment during the day. When speaking to the pool manager he told us this is a complaint from other guests as well. At the front desk, there’s only 1 overwhelmed receptionist that’s incapable of handling phone calls, checkins, checkouts along with questions from passing guests. The room is on top of the kids corner at a mall. Literally not figuratively. Very loud all day with no way to take a nap or a restful sleep. The food at the rooftop restaurant is beyond disgusting, watered down coffee, almost inedible food. In the room, the phone is broken so we cannot call the reception with any issues, and there were a few. Bed sheets stinking of mold or dampness, no water in the room, no coffee, housekeeping took away the robes. Issues that meant we had to go downstairs to ask for help from overwhelmed receptionists that constantly complain about being understaffed and untrained. When I asked about the hotel’s manager’s contact to let them know about our experience, the receptionist refused to provide it. The receptionist was completely untrained and unable to handle the situation.

Well run hotel. Excellent staff. Be prepared for noisy nights as you are close to all of the night clubs. They are hopping until 3 AM every night. Not a place for a quiet night. Otherwise they were a real pleasure.

I had to book a room last minute. I arrived at the property around 9 pm. Asked if at least I can get a quiet nice room since I already lost a full day ( not their fault but at least some consideration should have been given by the lady who checked me in instead of being dismissive) Instead I had one of the most noisy rooms on the top of a club that played the loudest music till 3 am and a garbage dumpster view. I thought at first it’s just the fact that it’s the centre of Playa and it is what it is. I was later shocked when I discovered that the hotel has some much nicer rooms on the other side of the property with even balconies with an ocean view. My room was a good size but the exposure and the noise was unbearable. I had no sleep for the 2 nights I was there. The room wasn’t cleaned till late in the afternoon ( just before 5 pm) The roof top was nice. If you’re not partying till the early morning hours, stay away from this property.

During my time at the Thompson I experienced the worst hotel stay. I arrived at Thompson Playa del Carmen with my friend on December 7th. My friend and I were traveling to celebrate my birthday. We were greeted by the lady at the front counter. She was kind and efficient during the check-in process. Once we were checked in, I noticed a few issues with the room. The balcony door had a lock on it, closing off access to the balcony. The room temperature seemed slightly warm, and the shower head was dismounted and sitting on the ground. This made me a little discouraged about my stay, but I had hope that the staff and maintenance team could quickly turn around minor issues. I tried dialing the front desk and realized that the phone was inoperable. I went downstairs and spoke to the attendant. She advised me that maintenance would be upstairs at once and that she couldn’t find any vacant rooms. My friend and I didn’t want to wait for maintenance, so we decided to leave to go grab food and not waste any more time. We spent most of the day out and didn’t return to our rooms until around 8pm. When I got back to my room, I noticed that the temperature was still quite warm. I decided I should take a shower and just go to bed. Since this was our travel day, we were both extremely exhausted. When I started running the water in the shower, I quickly realized that the water wasn’t getting hot. I became agitated that the room wasn’t properly serviced before we arrived and that there were
