This was by far the worst vacation I have ever taken!We ended up buying a time share with them on day 2 before any of the craziness started.The time share people were great!They work for Barcelo. They gave us several coupons for the excursions, the rental Jeep and one massage. When we set up the Jeep and one excursion the guy who set it up took all the occidental money we had and he wasn’t supposed too, he still charged us for talum on top of the coupons and the for the Jeep. He took all that money from us. We had no idea what was going on cause it was pecos and we didn’t know the conversion. Going to talum we were told a taxi would be there at 6am to get us and it was paid for, no taxi was waiting n we had to pay for it. When we got to the ferry we were told it was $3, it was $30!By the time we got there we barely had any money left.When we got back we were upset and felt like we were ripped off, especially since we still wanted to go snorkeling. We went over to the time share people and talked to them about the issue and they told us we didn’t have to pay for snorkeling cause this happened. We scheduled snorkeling for our last day and they still tried to charge us when we were booking and when we were leaving. The morning we were leaving we got up got our suit cases out and went to breakfast, we didn’t check out yet. The cleaning people went in when they weren’t supposed too and stole things from the room. We will not be returning!

The hotel issues a bracelet that is tied on with a string and makes very easy lose They charged me 50.00 which is excessive. Also the ice machine can be heard all night long making ice outside of the room ( very loud ). The clerk did not follow through with a simple request in acquiring a bag of rice for a wet phone.

The property was very nice and has a variety of great restaurants. However we experienced a hurricane while we were there and had no cable, wifi or cellular service for four days. This is not acceptable.

Ok here goes ill try to be short ..the hotel is gorgeous its set in an exotic tropical forest yes it says rain but no longer than 30 minutes youll see iguanas wild pigs coti and all kinds of animals no worries none are dangerous and are a nuisance plus u will be too occupied enjoying all the resort has to offer from food to all watersports and the impecable and friendly service from the eager staff they really are accommodating as the are friendly Alexandra jose anna lupe i cant remember all there names manuel went above and beyond to make sure i had a taxi nad was not overcharged food is not your basic american fare its mexico so it has mexican dishes all prepared with detail..thoroughly enjoyed and will be back..family friendly even when they say no its with courtesy trying to geta reservation to the specialty restaurants was the only negative but we did get a chance to eat at la carrita 5star..it was delicious..

Covid safety A rating, everyone wore masks, took temp before entering restaurants and gave hand sanitizer before entering and before every entry to get more food. Testing was onsite cost $31 for rapid test which is what you need for reentry to the states. They do it everyday all day so lines aren't long, very painless. The snorkeling was great right off the resort, saw tons of fish, parrot, angel, trumpet, rays, spotted eel, snake eels, lobsters, squid. Food was pretty good, was hoping for more spicy authentic Mexican food but good variety. Staff was wonderful and pool was great, enjoyed the volleyball. Just a short distance from Chankanaab which is a great place for dolphin excursion and snorkeling. Well worth a visit. Would definitely go back!!

I did not appreciate the lack of air conditioning and electricity. Also, not being able to flush the toilet, wash my hands, or take a shower was offensive. The air conditioning thermostat was broken so we had no air in Cozumel in the summer. My last night (number 4) they finally moved us to a different room. No offer was made for discount, no comped room, and no apology. I was not happy, impressed, or pleased with the accommodations at all. I will not recommend a stay at the Occidental Cozumel to anyone!
